Tucked beneath the eaves of the East Wing, a new perspective on Dorset’s historic buildings awaits.
This season, John Lowe brings his work to the gallery at Athelhampton House, offering a thoughtful exploration of architecture across the county.
A Dorset Story in Buildings
John Lowe’s work is shaped by a long career as an architect and conservation specialist. His paintings and drawings go beyond surface detail, revealing how buildings were designed, used, and adapted over time.
Drawing on material from his book, the exhibition traces the evolution of the Dorset house from early origins to the present day, combining reconstruction drawings, paintings, and historic imagery to bring these places vividly to life.
Meet the Artist
This is not a static exhibition. John is often on site, leading informal tours and speaking about his work, offering insight into both the creative process and the stories behind the buildings.
For many visitors, this becomes a highlight.
Part of Your Visit
The gallery is located in the East Wing Attic and forms part of the self-guided tour. Entry is included with admission, alongside access to over twenty historic rooms and five acres of award-winning gardens.
It sits naturally within the wider experience of the house, extending the story of Athelhampton into the broader Dorset landscape.
Looking Ahead
The exhibition runs until the end of May 2026, with a changing programme of artists to follow throughout the year.
