From the Athelhampton archive this evening a view of the Gatehouse at Athelhampton, built in the 1550’s, but sadly pulled down in 1862. This fabulous picture by Orlando Jewitt, not in his preferred medium of wood-cut print, instead in pen and water making the picture look almost like a photograph.

Stunning glimpse into the past—Jewitt’s pen and water work feels almost photographic, capturing the lost Gatehouse beautifully. The level of detail and atmosphere is as immersive as exploring a carefully preserved world in Eaglercraft
What a fascinating glimpse into history—the Gatehouse sounds truly timeless, and that pen-and-water artwork must feel almost alive. Pieces like this really bring the past closer. After reading, I’d unwind with a quick game of Slope Rider 2 for a fun change of pace.
