When you visit us, it's always worth looking closer at the small details. The outside roses at Athelhampton House & Gardens bloom beautifully through the summer, but inside the house, there are roses blooming all year round.

In the library, a small rose peeps down from the top of the panelling, almost hidden amongst the carvings covering the walls.

In the Kings Room, a gilded rose decorates part of the fireplace, this time with the more usual five petals instead of four.

A very similar rose, down to the five petals and lattice work decorating the centre, decorates the front door. This is likely the oldest of our roses, dating all the way back to 1485.

Twined around the lock on the door to the Green Dining Room sits a five petalled rose, this time with a screw forming its centre - both decorative, and functional!

In the Great Hall sit many flowers on the various wooden bosses decorating the panelling, screen, and roof, and amongst these flowers are roses of both the four and five petal variety.

Come and see if you can spot any other roses at Athelhampton House, and in the Gardens! We're open 7 days a week all year round, aside from a few days over Christmas, and our interior roses bloom all year round.
