Quiet in the Gardens at Athelhampton

After the last visitors drift away and the gardens fall quiet, Athelhampton settles into a different kind of stillness.

The front of Athelhampton, with its crenelated porch and façade partially covered by a magnolia grandiflora are illuminated by the warm evening sun. On the right hand side stands a cedar of Lebanon.

This evening the sun hangs low, catching the warm stone of the Tudor manor and drawing out every detail of its façade. Nearby, the great Cedar of Lebanon stands gently illuminated, its branches holding the last light of the day.

A view up into the branches of the cedar of Lebanon, with the yellow light of the sun lighting the trunk.

A fleeting moment in the gardens at Athelhampton, calm and unhurried, before evening takes hold.

A low hanging sun shines through the branches of the cedar of Lebanon in the background of the picture, while the pink flowers of a magnolia are lit up in the foreground.

And before long, a new day will dawn, and Athelhampton will quietly open its gates once more, ready to welcome visitors back to the house and gardens.
