Local Produce in the Shop at Athelhampton

For a while, there's been a bit of a gap in the shop at Athelhampton. To most new visitors, it probably isn't noticeable, but for returning visitors and to all our staff, it's been a bit of a hole. However, it's recently been filled again!

Rows of cheeses in the fridge at Athelhampton. They sit against a black background. From left to right, there is a small round of Blyton, a "Rich and Creamy Dorset Brie," a small round of Smoked Huxley "Smoked Dorset Cow's Milk Halloumi," a yellow wedge of Truffle Wordsworth "Gouda Style Cheese with Black Truffle", and Hardy's "Our Signature Dorset Hard Cheese." All of these are produced by the Book and Bucket Cheese Comany, and have their round logo on the sticker, against a black background. The text of the company name is in block capitals in a circle, encircling a picture of an open book coming out of the top of a bucket.

Our old fridge had broken, and so we were no longer able to offer the various speciality cheeses, drinks, meats, and other local produce that we had done for years. However, we've recently acquired a new fridge, which means our customers can once again take advantage of the local produce.

The fridge in its new setting at Athelhampton. It's got clear sides and clear doors, held together at the edges and corners by black panels. It has 5 shelves. On the left hand side, the top shelf contains milk, eggs, butter, and clotted cream, all from local companies - Craig's Farm Dairy in Dorset, and Wyke in Somerset. The next shelf down contains salami and other cured meats from The Real Cure, a Dorset based company, and olives and houmous from Delphi Foods. The next two shelves contain cheeses primarily from the Dorset based Book and Bucket cheese company, but also from Ford Farm, Craig's Farm Dairy, and Crook and Churn - all Dorset based cheese companies. The next shelf down contains meat from Thorner's butchers, based locally in Somerset. On the right hand side shelves are bottles of gin, sparkling water, non-alcoholic ginger beer from the Dorset Ginger Company, Purbeck Cider, Piddle Beer, and wine from the local Langham Wine Estate.

With Dorset made cheeses, locally raised meat, and even beer brewed in the Piddle Valley, there's something for everyone, whether as a last minute addition to a picnic, or as a present to take home for a friend.
