Flowers in the Victorian Library and in the Gardens at Athelhampton House & Gardens

As you make your way around Athelhampton House & Gardens, you can spot parallels between the house and the gardens. The decorations throughout the house are often reflected in the gardens, and this is particularly true of the library.

Almost all of the flowers shown on the library ceiling are also possible to find in the gardens, depending on the time of year! The roses, both large and small, are abundant in the gardens through the summer.

The smaller roses on the ceiling are particularly reminiscent of some of the roses that twine around the house in early summer.

Columbine, or Grandmother's Bonnet, is also common in the garden. On the ceiling, it's shown facing directly towards the viewer, though when you find it in the gardens it's more often hanging its head down.

Pomegranates - have we got anything in the shop featuring pomegranates?

Lilies????

Bluebells? Too late, but have gardeners got any photos?

Athelhampton House & Gardens are open 7 days a week all year round, save a few days at Christmas. See if you can spot the flowers in our library ceiling, or in our gardens!
