After the Rain in the Victorian Kitchen Garden at Athelhampton House & Gardens

As we slip into autumn, we're seeing more rainy weather at Athelhampton House & Gardens, for which the plants (and gardeners!) are grateful.

The brick path of the kitchen garden leads away from the viewer towards a fountain at the centre of the image. On either side, herbaceous borders are full of a variety of plants. In the background is a bright blue cloudless sky with the silhouettes of some of the taller trees against it.

Walking through the Victorian Kitchen Garden at Athelhampton, this picture was taken moments after it had been raining. As if by magic, the rain that had been falling at Athelhampton just moments before stopped, the clouds slipped away and a bright blue sky appeared. The only clue to what had gone before was the shine of moisture still lingering on the brick paths of the Kitchen Garden.
