Divorced, Beheaded, Died, an audience with Henry VIII in the Great Hall at Athelhampton House

In November 2026, we invite you step back into Tudor England and come face to face with one of history's most famous monarchs as King Henry VIII arrives at Athelhampton House & Gardens for an unforgettable evening of theatre in the magnificent Tudor Great Hall.

Set in the year 1544, England's most formidable king is undertaking a Royal Progress through his realm and has paused at Athelhampton to grant his loyal subjects an audience with their sovereign lord and king.

Presented by the acclaimed Select Society Theatre Company, this engaging one man, two act production brings Henry VIII vividly to life. In his own words, the King recounts the triumphs, scandals, and controversies of his long reign, revealing the truth behind his six wives, his children, and the events that shaped Tudor England.

The performance concludes with an interactive question and answer session, during which the audience is invited to put questions directly to His Majesty. No two evenings are ever quite the same, and the King's responses are often as surprising as they are entertaining.

Performed within Athelhampton's Great Hall, built in 1485 and contemporary with the Tudor age itself, this unique event offers a rare opportunity to experience Tudor history in an authentic historic setting.
