Athelhampton for Group Visits

Planning a group visit in Dorset? Athelhampton House and Gardens is an ideal destination for coach tours, garden groups, and organised visits, offering a memorable and rewarding day out in one of England’s finest historic houses. This remarkable Tudor manor, with over twenty rooms open to explore, is set within beautifully preserved, award winning formal gardens, creating a complete and enriching experience for every group.

Athelhampton has welcomed group visitors for many years, including organisations such as the National Trust, NADFAS, U3A, the Women’s Institute, historical societies, and international tour groups. Whether your interest lies in history, architecture, gardens, or simply enjoying a remarkable setting, Athelhampton offers something for everyone.

The House

The house has a history spanning more than five centuries, with origins in Saxon England. It has witnessed the Tudor period, the upheavals of the seventeenth century, including the Glorious Revolution, and a careful Victorian restoration that preserved its character for future generations. Today, visitors can explore the Great Hall, historic state rooms, and a richly layered architectural story.

The Gardens

The gardens are among the finest formal gardens in England. Four enclosed walled gardens each present their own distinct planting style and atmosphere. Beyond these lie sweeping avenues, mature trees, a rose garden, wider parkland walks, and a productive kitchen garden and glasshouse that continue the estate’s long tradition of cultivation.
