Athelhampton Art Gallery

During your visit to Athelhampton, in addition to the 20 rooms that are open to visit, you can enjoy the Athelhampton Art Gallery on the second floor of the historic East Wing, adjacent to the old Servant's Bedroom. This new art gallery replaces a smaller room on the West Wing.

The Art Gallery has space to hang over 60 artworks and is filled with plenty of natural light from its four windows, which offer stunning views of the gardens. 

Admission to the Art Gallery is included when you buy tickets to the Historic House & Gardens or with a reduced cost ticket to gallery-only special viewings.

Artworks are for sale by the artist through Athelhampton. If you make a purchase, your admission is refunded.

In The Gallery - Arthur Neal

March 29th to June 14th

Across fifty years, Arthur Neal has progressively reimagined the use of colour to interpret reality, and this new exhibition takes us on a journey from Camberwell and his association with the New English Art Club to pieces a hairline from the abstract. Along the way, we see a prize-winning oil exhibited in the National Portrait Gallery alongside works from numerous solo and group shows and those never seen before.

 

Thomas Hardy was a regular visitor to Athelhampton, and the show features some of Arthur's etchings inspired by the literary giant.

Robin Mills ARPS - 'Deep Roots'

An Insider's Photographs of Dorset Country Life. The farming life in Dorset that Robin was part of for over 50 years was inevitably a driver in his motivation as a photographer. The images attempt to portray the essence of what it means to me a country person working the land, someone for whom life in the city would be no life at all.

It is this identity and sense of place that applies to those whose lives are deeply embedded in the countryside that forms the theme and essence of Robin's photographs. Here are the people who share with him an intense relationship with the countryside.


Gordon Rushmer - 'Every Picture Tells a Story'

Gordon's work as a war artist alongside British and Dutch elite forces is well documented, covering deployments in Afghanistan, Iraq, Bosnia, Kosovo, and Eritrea. But he has always been a working painter since his early training at art school and has travelled extensively in Europe and the United States of America.

This major exhibition of his work showcases the whole gamut of his skills and travels and includes a special collection of works devoted to Athelhampton House.
