Jólakötturinn, or the Yule cat, is from Icelandic folklore. The threat of being eaten by the Yule cat was used by farmers to hurry their workers to finish processing the autumn wool before Christmas. Those who did were rewarded with new clothes. Those who didn’t, however, got nothing and dismissed as potential prey for the hungry Yule cat stalking the countryside!
