About The Event
Come and visit Athelhampton House this special Tudor weekend. Athelhampton is one of England's finest Tudor Manor Houses surrounded by stunning architectural gardens. Come and immerse yourself in the sights, sounds, and smells with our Tudor living historians, dressed in period clothing and going about their Tudor business, against the backdrop of Athelhampton House’s historic interiors and architecture. It’s the middle of Lent, and in our Tudors world there is a lack of meat, dairy, and eggs, so come and try some of the foods they would be complaining about, including Pottage and Gingerbread. Meet people from all walks of Tudor life, from the gentlefolk to the servants, and learn what life was like in Elizabethan times, and what it was like to be part of a Catholic family in Protestant England. Discover strange old customs, have a go at period dances, enjoy Tudor music, learn to play games, examine their clothing, and try your hand at writing with a quill. There will be lots of educational and fun activities to keep the children entertained during this specially organised weekend by Juliet Braidwood.
